Upper Elementary
(Ages 8-11)

  • Offer opportunities for collaborative intellectual exploration in which the child’s interests are supported and guided

  • Support the development of self-confidence, imagination, intellectual independence, and self-efficacy

  • Foster an understanding of the child’s role in their community, in their culture, and in the natural world

Classes take place on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday each week. Students are highly encouraged to participate in the full three-day schedule, however they may also choose to register for a two-day or single-day schedule.

Students in our Upper Elementary age range have the opportunity to choose between three classes each period. Our classes provide a variety of focuses, including STEM, art and creativity, humanities, critical thinking, and problem-solving. Exploring these topics with a hands-on, collaborative approach to learning fosters a deep understanding of essential concepts.

Junior Sleuths

Learn how real detectives crack cases! In this hands-on class, students will explore crime scenes, analyze clues, and uncover the science behind forensic investigations. From fingerprinting to secret codes, young sleuths will build sharp observation skills and have a blast solving mini-mysteries.

Treasure Hunters

“We’re going to steal the Declaration of Independence.” Just kidding, but we are going to go on a treasure hunt to find historical items just like it. In this class, we will be discussing historical vs. fictional versions of famous artifacts that have been depicted in movies, such as Indiana Jones, The Mummy, National Treasure, and more. Join me as we discover the history and the pathway to these important relics!

Enchanted Forest

As you enter the Enchanted Forest, keep your eyes peeled for some beautiful and mystical creatures that may be residing there, including fairies, unicorns, centaurs, elves, and more. Once you encounter one of these glorious beings, open your creature guide to learn more about them. Don’t forget to take notes because at the end of the journey you may just want to use some magic to materialize your own Enchanted Forest!

Mushroom Kingdom

Discover the secrets of a hidden world filled with towering mushrooms, underground networks, and nature’s most surprising decomposers! This immersive science class blends biology, mycology, and ecology with hands-on labs, artistic projects, and investigative activities. Students will explore fungal life cycles, symbiotic relationships, spore art, and even the role of fungi in forensic science. Science has never been so weird—and fun!

Dive into the fascinating world of wetlands—where land, water, and wildlife collide to form one of Earth's most essential ecosystems. Get ready to travel across the globe, no passport needed! In this class, students will dive into the rich traditions of Korea. From traditional hanbok and ancient palaces to K-pop beats and tasty Korean treats, we’ll explore the heart of Korean culture through discussions, hands-on activities, music, language, games, and more. Whether you’re a K-drama fan, a history buff, or simply curious about the world, this class is a celebration of Korea’s past and present.

Engineering Lab

In this engineering class, students will explore the exciting world of simple machines through the lens of Phineas and Ferb. They’ll learn how levers, pulleys, inclined planes, and wheels work, and apply these concepts to create inventions like improved back scratchers and windmills. Students will also collaborate to build a class-wide Rube Goldberg machine, testing their knowledge and teamwork in a fun, chaotic finale!

Masterpiece Mashup

In Masterpiece Mashup, students will explore the styles of two influential artists and blend their techniques to create a unique, hybrid artwork. Digital Dreamscapes invites students to explore the limitless possibilities of digital art, using Procreate and iPads to create stunning, imaginative worlds. Through layering, blending, and special effects, students will bring their artistic visions to life with cutting-edge tools.

Ad Ventures

In this class, students will explore iconic brands like Starbucks, Coca-Cola, Disney, and Nike to uncover the strategies behind their success. They’ll examine logos, commercials, and slogans, learning the fundamentals of branding and marketing. Students will redesign logos, design packaging, and even film their own commercials. Throughout the course, they’ll keep fun sketchbooks filled with their ideas and designs, building a strong foundation in creativity and visual storytelling.

Do you have what it takes to head west and build a new life? In this interactive class, you’ll step into the shoes of a pioneer in the 1800s—joining fellow travelers on a journey filled with challenges, tough choices, and unexpected twists. Each week, you’ll face new scenarios that shape your fate as you move westward in search of land, gold, or a fresh start. With maps, supply tracking, creative writing, and other hands-on activities, every class brings history to life. You’ll make decisions as a team, take risks, problem-solve, and build a story of survival, grit, and ambition. Science in the City

Ready to explore how science and technology shape one of the world’s most vibrant cities? In this class, students will uncover the science behind New York’s wonders, from the technology of Times Square to Central Park’s wildlife and iconic skyscrapers. We’ll also explore how science influences fashion, food, and entertainment. The course ends with a creative project where students design their own New Year’s Eve ball drop, blending science, art, and engineering for a fun celebration!
